Charming town house in Vall de Gallinera

Ref. EC68573
159.995€

Buy this little piece of paradise! Town house is for sale in the magical Vall de Gallinera and would be an ideal home for a couple looking for a special place to live. La Carroja is located about 350 meters above sea level. It is one of eight villages that make up the valley of about six hundred people. After leaving Adsubia, the narrow entrance to the valley opens and begins to follow the course of the Gallinera river for about 14 kilometres. It is guarded at both ends by the Islamic castles of Lord Al Azraq. Nothing prepares you in advance for the magnificent scenery, the quality of light or the vibrancy of the Valencian community here.

The valley is known for its early cherries and hosts a cherry festival in June each year. Farmers also grow olives, oranges and lemons, almonds, figs, and other fruits. Many people come here for the clean air, walking and other outdoor activities.

If you like to dip your toes in the Mediterranean Sea from time to time, you can easily reach any number of pristine beaches in about thirtyfive minutes and return home to this hidden gem at the end of the day.

The beautiful pool in the valley is 300 meters from the house and from midJune to early September Josep and his team will prepare tapas, salads, fideuas and various paellas at lunchtime. Other great places to eat include a highend tapas restaurant in Benirrama; one that specializes in cooking their own local lamb over firewood in Benitaia, as well as many others that serve traditional Valencian food.

There are two excellent village shops, one above and one below us, less than five minutes away, selling village olive oil and honey, homemade bread and fresh vegetables, as well as pretty much everything you need for daily life. In the town of Pego, twenty minutes away, there are several supermarkets, including an Aldi and a Mercadona. We have excellent medical facilities here with a doctor and nurse available five days a week. In Pego there is a Health Center with 24hour service.

The house is known, locally, as the 'English' House and is unlike most of the Spanish town houses in the area. It is in six levels. Starting from the bottom and working your way up:

Floor 1 A large barrelvaulted cellar.Floor 2 A room that lends itself to many possibilities. Adjacent is a bathroom with toilet and large bathtub. It has an electric radiator and underfloor heating.Floor 3 Dining room and living room with underfloor heating and a 10Kw wood stove.Floor 4 Our 'Winter' Kitchen, also with underfloor heating.Floor 5: joins two double rooms en suite.Floor 6: a "summer" kitchen, a comfortable living room and doors to the terrace.

You enter from the street, opposite the church, through lockable double iron doors to a porch where we store logs for the 'chimenea' wood stove. There is a cold water tap and also an electrical outlet.

Here you will find the original tall double doors with a small recessed door to let you in. In times past this floor would have been used for farm machinery and possibly animals. It is now our living room and dining room (Floor 3) and is very cool in the summer heat. In cooler times a 10 Kw wood burning stove plus electric underfloor heating keeps you warm. We have a 300mb fiber optic internet connection and a landline telephone. There is double glazing throughout the house.

Take four steps up to our fully equipped "winter" kitchen (Floor 4), where there are handbuilt wooden units with granite countertops and a wallmounted dish rack. There is a dresser that was made for us from a single piece of English elm! There is a four burner gas cooker, dishwasher and fridge/freezer and all are included in the sale. There is also electric underfloor heating here as well.

Return to the living room and go down through the double stained glass doors to the ground floor (Floor 2). This room lends itself to numerous possibilities. Off of this is a bathroom with a large bathtub. There is an electric radiator, also underfloor heating here. Four steps below (Floor 1), through what has been described to us as a typical Mudejar arch, is the barrelvaulted cellar. Although the deeds are dated 1934, the arch would suggest that the house has a much earlier origin. The cellar floor is tiled and there is lighting and electricity. A 75 liter hot water boiler is installed here for the bathtub and half of the house.

Go back into the living room and up the stairs to a landing (5th floor) where there is plenty of room for fitted wardrobes. At each end, you will find a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. Both bedrooms
